Karen Nichols

Karen Nichols has a lifetime of experience in church work , education and the music industry in general.  She obtained her BA in English at the University of Virginia, and graduate education credentials at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California.  She has served as music director in a variety of Christian church denominations including Baptist, Episcopalian, Lutheran and Disciples of Christ, and at the Center for Positive Living in Concord, California.  She plays the keyboard, sings, and plays a variety of other instruments including guitar, dulcimer, Celtic harp, autoharp, and a bit of fiddle.  She created and conducted  a women’s choir called Blue Ridge Voices for two years that featured  Regional music and choral favorites.  She has extensive choral conducting and performing experience and was a member of the UVA Women’s Chorus the year it was established, University Singers, and the exclusive Madrigal Singers.  She taught in the public schools of California  over five years prior to returning to her home state of Virginia to caregive her mother.  She currently serves as the Bedford Community orchestra’s pianist, appears with her jazz group 37North, and teaches music lessons in addition to working as a paralegal part-time in Bedford, Virginia.
